Thailand is a country that is located in Southeast Asia that has borders to Burma, Laos, Cambodia and Malaysia. The attractions that this country offers from great food, fantastic beaches, warm climate and beautiful sights have made it a popular destination for tourists. The fact that travelling in Thailand is low cost adds to the attraction. Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, is a bustling city that mixes modern times with their fascinating culture. The city teems with Buddhist temples and Buddhist monks in their saffron robes are a familiar sight. The people are friendly though few could speak the English language.
Travelling through Thailand is quite easy and some of the beautiful spots are in Bangkok itself or just a few miles away from it. Here are five must-see places and must-have experiences to do while in Thailand:
Damnoen Saduak Floating Market
The water markets in Bangkok have to be seen, heard and experienced to be appreciated. These floating markets use the traditional way of selling fruits and vegetables from a small boat. There are plenty of floating markets in Thailand but the most popular is the Damnoen Saduak located in Ratchaburi Province. The best time to go there is before 9am to avoid tourists and boat traffic at the same time.
Krabi Province
Krabi is a sleepy coastal province that has fabulous white sand beaches, crystal clear waters and towering lime mountains and small islands dotting the sea. Island hopping can be done using the long tailed boats manned by locals. The place also boasts as having one of the most photogenic sunsets in Thailand.
Koh Samui
Koh Samui is Thailand’s third largest island and a paradise of white sand beaches, an untouched jungle and rejuvenating spas. Activities like elephant trekking, golfing, scuba diving and sailing are offered as well. For those who love the nightlife, there are choices in bars and restaurants.
Chiang Mai
Chiang Mai is the second largest city of Thailand and has beautiful sceneries and temples but the unique thing about it are the Thai food cooking lessons that some local cooks offer. Classes usually take 4-6 hours and would include a pick up from your hotel, a trip to the local market to buy the ingredients to be used in the cooking lesson for the day. Some cooking classes even have their own herbal garden that will be a part of the cooking lessons.
An elephant ride can be booked and enjoyed if you stay for the night. A daytime ride can be had but it is during the night that you can get to pet the elephants, give them a bath or simply bond with them.
Street food in Bangkok
You will never be able to experience real life in Bangkok unless you eat the street food that they have to offer. It may be a bit intimidating for tourists to eat from the streets but they are surprisingly clean and the food choices and taste are awesome. Be adventurous, live a little for after all life is too short.
