We had an absolute amazing time at the Fairwind Morning Kealakeua Snorkel & BBQ Cruise.We were on the Big Island for about a week and really wanted to enjoy some great snorkeling. We had heard great things about Fairwind, so we decided to give them a try. We had our family traveling (2 young kids – 2 & 4) with us. We were a little hesitant as this was a 4.5 hour cruise, but it was smooth and very well organized. The morning Fairwind cruise was known for being very friendly friendly and it certainly lived up to the expectations
Snorkeling Location – The boat stops at the Captain James Cook monument, which has some of the best snorkeling in all of Hawaii (and we’ve snorkeled on 4 of the other islands). We really enjoyed this location, as the water was very calm, the reef was beautiful and there was so much diversity in water. We saw so many types of fish, coral, eels, reef tip sharks and several pods of dolphins around.
Cost – The price was a little expensive for the morning option, as adults are $145, children are $89 and toddlers are $29. The afternoon is less expensive if you are able to do that option. The morning option does include two meals: breakfast (fresh fruit, croissants, muffins, etc) and lunch (beef burgers, veggie burgers, chips, etc). It also include non-alcoholic drinks and snorkel equipment, vests & other water devices (including a box to view water for small children).
Crew – The crew was fantastic on the boat. They served up breakfast right away, stopped by for our mask & snorkel fitting, watched attentively as a full boat of people embarked into the water. There were so many adults & children enjoying this beautiful day, but the crew made sure everyone was properly prepared.
Activities – The main focus on the tour is really the snorkeling, but many of the passengers enjoyed the waterslides, jumps off the top diving deck and just overall relaxation on the boat. There is something for everyone here.
Ideal Traveler – This tour is ideal for the novice to beginner snorkeler, honeymooners or families traveling. It really is the perfect getaway for about anyone.
Overall Takeaway – We highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get out on an excellent cruise and enjoy some world class snorkeling. It’s ideal for about any type of traveler ranging from honeymooner to families with young kids.
