6 Day Portugal Anniversary Trip

Portugal continues to be a very popular travel destination for our travelers. We had some recent travelers enjoy a perfect 6 day Portugal anniversary trip. Similar to our other recent Portugal travelers (read about their adventure here), they thoroughly enjoyed exploring the country. They split their time in Lisbon and then visited a more remote area in Monforte at a stunning wine hotel, Torre de Palma. They had an absolutely fantastic overall experience. Below is their summary and feedback on the Portugal trip.

Days 1 & 2 (Lisbon):: NH Collection – Lisbon Hotel

This sophisticated hotel is ideally situated in Lisbon. Close to attractions, shopping and much more. The hotel was recently renovated and includes all contemporary features in the rooms. There is a outdoor pool, rooftop terrace, cozy bar and overall stunning space for travelers.

Days 3 – 6 (Monforte & Algarve):: Torre de Palma – Monforte Hotel

Set in a refurbished 14th-century manor, this luxurious modern hotel is 6 km from both the Herdade do Perdigão winery and the town of Monforte. Featuring individual color motifs and art, the whimsical rooms & suites offer free Wi-Fi and TVs, along with iPod docks and a choice of pillows. An upgraded suite offers a living/dining room, a kitchenette and a washer/dryer. Room service is available 24/7. Amenities include a winery and a refined restaurant combining rustic and modern furnishings. There are indoor and outdoor pools, and there’s a posh spa providing a whirlpool, a Turkish bath, massages and Pilates classes. Parking is included.

Good choice of company with Hertz
Great customer service and very efficient with lines (other car rentals not as good
Timely Tip – Highly recommend buying the toll road option (EZ pass) ahead of time to avoid waiting in toll lines
Timely Tip – Make sure to secure an IDP (International Driver’s Permit – see more here) prior to travel.
Infrastructure was good and made driving easy on highways

Portugal Food, Drink & Adventure

The quality of food was outstanding throughout the country. The seafood and meat was very, very good.
Timely Tip – Jose Avillez restaurants (several of these throughout Portugal) – Best meal they’ve had in a long time! Highly recommended for travelers to experience.
Senor Lisboa is a local café (not touristy). Ambience was European picture perfect and food was delicious (tapas style)
White port and tonic with lemon on the rocks is a local drink and is super refreshing (Portuguese version of gin and tonic)
Explored the Algarve Coast – Simply beautiful and rugged coastal towns.
