Must Do In Rome –  Visit The Necropolis Under The Basilica of St. Peter

  • The visit takes place beneath the Vatican basilica at the tomb of the Apostle Peter; the itinerary of the visit, besides offering cultural and historical information, is a pilgrimage to one of the holiest sites in Christendom.

How to get access?

  • You must send an email to the Excavations Office @ Scavi@fsp.fa with your names, dates that you wish to visit, language that you speak and your email address.  You need a special permit to visit this area and it needs to be done prior to your visit.  It’s well worth it, but again in needs to be done in advance.
  • The ticket price is € 13,00 per person.

Day of Visit

  • Make sure to print the reminder email that is provided to you, as you will have to bring it with you since it permits access to the Vatican the Excavations Office and your visit.
  • Visitors must be 15 years old, without any exception.
  • Each group must be composed of about 12 participants, according to their language.
  • The visit, which lasts about an hour and a half, is conducted by a specialized guides.
